Arroyo Disc Sports has been grass roots from the start. We are a small company founded in the very place where disc golf was first publicly established, Pasadena, California.
We were a few friends, who despite having any real funding, share an intense passion for the sport and desire to produce something special for disc golf within the sports world.
Our chief and primary objective as a company became to tackle a new design and manufacturing process for the most controversial component of the game, the disc golf basket.
In founding our company structure, we agreed on there being more than just the opportunity to produce the best catching basket on the market, but also with the type of facility in which we would build them. Arroyo Disc Sports wasn't looking for the fastest and cheapest way to make baskets. We sought to keep it in family as we developed our strategy to improve baskets.
The Vortex shop in its first set up 3 years ago
Our roots are in the family that helped make it possible to build the first prototypes and do product testing for our original basket ideas. They believed in what we were doing and saw our vision to create premium targets for the sport of disc golf. They decided to get on board with us by building a manufacturing company in the Midwest dedicated to the handcrafting of Vortex disc golf baskets. Working together, we constructed a manufacturing facility from the ground up. They now employ a handful of individuals in their community, and together we are doing our part to build local business in America. It is one of our core company values to support the communities that support us. Though outsourcing and cheap materials are alluring with their instant value, even as a new company, we stuck to our guns to develop a 100% American-made product. Arroyo Disc Sports is a company of the community and for the players. We are not ambitious about becoming widely known or doing a lot public advertising, but want to provide access to and information on our products both in the existing circle of professional and amateur disc golfers and as we branch out. Keeping an avenue open for the public who hasn't yet explored our evolving sport, one of ADS's new slogans is "We are out there."
Nikko Locastro sharing the love
Our roots also lie in the insight that through promoting and investing in the sport, the result would be an organic return of community interest in us and our integrity. We at Arroyo Disc Sports, for this reason, implemented strict clauses in our operating agreements that demand a majority of profit go back into the sport itself. We have been working with clubs around the country to promote the good values of disc golf. We have donated ADS Baskets and Apparel to various youth disc golf leagues and to PDGA events around the Nation. Supporting and working with rising professionals in the sport, like St. Louis's Nikko Locastro, we have developed scholastic programs for inner-city youth. ADS also takes part in programs like Operation Disc Golf 2013, a program developed by professional disc golfers Don Smith and Sarah Holkom, which brings disc golf to American Troops stationed around the world.
Our roots are in our being a business fully committed to growing this sport. We aim for and achieve in doing our company's part to preserve nature, raise health and environmental awareness, and produce quality disc golf targets and gear. Our outlook is that the sport of disc golf is a positive, economically-friendly, physically accessible for almost everyone form of exercise (and much needed outdoor activity).
We look forward to the future of disc golf, and we welcome others to join our grass roots movement.
